It is important for people to find a clinician who can truly understand the adversities they've experienced. A clinician they can trust. For first responders, finding a culturally competent clinician can lead to greater progress in therapy. Why? First responders are a unique population of people who face chronic stress and oftentimes trauma within their profession. However due to the cultural values and beliefs, mental health concerns are often minimized, or completely avoided. This can lead to burnout, relationship struggles, infidelity, addiction or a mental health crisis. As a clinician who has experience working with first responders, I not only understand the complexities of the issues they face, but also have extensive training in trauma focused therapies to address Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Post Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI). Trauma focused treatment aims to help the individual regulate their nervous system, learn tools to manage work related stress, build resilience, and process trauma in a safe, confidential space.
